Netball report

A Grade Frankston YCW 48 def Bonbeach 29

B Grade Frankston YCW 79 def Bonbeach 24

C Grade Frankston YCW 54 def Bonbeach 18

D Grade Frankston YCW 41 def Bonbeach 7

Last week we came up against Bonbeach and with a short list of players had several girls step up and play 6 quarters of netball which was a great effort - thank you girls!

In A grade we had a tough game with only having one true defender. Evie stepped up and played out of position filling the role extremely well. We had some great patches of play and just need to continue to work on our turnover conversions early in the game. BOC goes to Tamara Bucca who got her hands to everything in GD.

B grade had a very convincing win but full credit must go to the Bonbeach girls who kept going for the 4 quarters. Despite the margin they didn't back down and kept pushing us until the final siren. Once again a team effort across the court with BOC going to Amelia Oakenfull for a super game in GK, the pressure she applied forced errors resulting in turnovers.

The C girls came out with a 20 - 1 first quarter, with only one goal being missed. Bonbeach fired up in the second quarter in what was an unorthodox game with a lot of scruffy play. We still need to work hard on clearing for the lead. BOC goes to Kirsty for her continued relentless defence work and support of team mates.

D grade had a great win 41 - 7 with some great defensive pressure. It took us the first half to play our own game and use the space more efficiently and when the team made smarter choices the game flowed a lot smoother. BOC goes to Paige Rizzo due to an outstanding amount of taps and intercepts in the first half.

Bonbeach paid us a visit with not much form to speak of.  Some clubs are struggling for numbers and we offered them our two emergencies and then of our side to even up the playing stocks.  More than happy to do this but to be told can only play 17 on 17 was not particularly happy. Best I check the rules further.

We started well enough with Hughes dominating and Bonbeach also causing some headaches but they just didn’t have the cattle.  Our kicking was errant and to be 2.6 to 0.2 at quarter time was disappointing.  We were playing with our usual gusto but unfortunately also bereft of panache to finish possession. Only to CC’s lads – we need 3!

We improved in the 2nd quarter with 6.9 to no score.  The 3rd quarter proved to be a bit of a shut down but the northerly had lifted further so our structure up forward was a little frayed but the usual effort from the behind the ball meant no trouble.

In the 4th quarter we stepped it up and made some positional changes with some great results.  Black on to the ball with Streety into the centre lifted our clean stoppage rate through the roof and although still impatient we hit the scoreboard 9.8 to finish 21.26.152 to 0.3.3.

Hughes’ size dominated but it was his enthusiasm to play with us for the first time resonated with the side.  Dalziel continues his consistency and Preston getting more of the ball and showing us how to pass by foot.  Sullivan lifted late but probably should’ve kicked 8; Streety also kicked 4 but should’ve kicked 8 or 9.

Missed opportunities will one day come back to haunt!!!
