Under 19

YCW 79 def Mt Eliza 26

The boys were primed for Mt Eliza after a short and sharp turnaround from Mornington.

Looking a little slow off the mark we settled in after a few hit ups and quickly stamped our authority on the game.  We went down to Mt Eliza 3 times in 2016 and it was pleasing to see the boys shake off the early lethargy and put the opposition off their game.

Lachlan Street bagged another seven in somewhat different surroundings including one that saw him snap from the bushes below our beloved Frankston RSL and another out of the glove box of Cappy's Mercedes.  Quick movement was the order of the day and one out he's hard to beat.

Our drive from the clearances was extremely pleasing and Cal Gregory was Diesel Williams for the day with several clean releases from the guts of the Pulse. The control of the ruck was left to the FTV and Red Greenie whilst Blacky had a week behind the ball after a tough week against Mornington where he dominated the ruck. Gus and Dos again drove well from the packs much better than Gus drives on his "L"s in dad's Cruiser.

The willingness to press Mt Eliza around the ground delivered in spades but a restructure in attack looks likely this week.

Karingal will be waiting for us at Frankston Park next Sunday and all arch rivals need to be treated with respect.  A strong performance on the track and we will be ready for the side that took us apart last time.

We owe them one.

Not much to report about this week as our young Reserves side was soundly beaten by a more experienced and better drilled MT. Eliza Reserves side at YCW on Good Friday.

It is always a difficult task playing against MT. Eliza as they always put good teams on the ground whenever the two sides meet. Unfortunately the boys were beaten  in just about every position on the ground and we were never given the opportunity to get our running game going.

In what was a game full of negatives there was also some positives with some good performances by guys who tried hard all day. This was a good learning curve for our team on how football needs to be played at this level and I have no doubt that we can bounce back this week with a win over Karingal.

YCW 74 def Mt Eliza 44

Playing Mt Eliza on Good Friday was an exciting challenge and one we had been looking forward to for some time, the game started with fierce tackling and it was a battle of the defences. We were not able to convert our chances and were down by 1 point at quarter time.

The 2nd quarter saw the Mounties kick away and open up a small lead but to our boys credit we pegged them back kicking 4 goals 8 behinds to go in 12 points up at half time. Bundy, Kev, Byron, Ryley, Jie,  Lachie and BJ were doing a great job down back and set up numerous opportunities to score. Matt LaFontaine was also creating havoc picking up a heap of possessions.

We were kicking into the breeze in the 3rd quarter and had the majority of the ball with Luke Paynter and Jack Mazurek proving to be a real head ache for the Mounties,  Bruhn and Butland were working tirelessly to provide options up forward . Our mid field were on top and getting their hands on the ball first thanks to good work in the ruck by Ash & Macklin. Unfortunately we lost Lachie with a strained hamstring early in the quarter and it looks like he will miss a couple of games.

Going into the last quarter we were feeling confident that we could build on our 12 point lead. We were able to hold them off and kick 3 goals to nil to win by 30 points.

We now can look forward to Karingal at Frankston Park next Sunday

NETBALL

Last week YCW came up against the always competitive, Mt Eliza team. The 'A' grade girls allowed Mt Eliza to get the lead in the first quarter and made it hard for ourselves, having to fight back. We managed to get up on the last quarter with a couple of critical turnovers to drop the game by just one goal. BOG goes to Courtney for her work in defensive end.

The B grade girls got off to the start we wanted breaking the Mounties centre and scoring the first two goals. A comfortable lead that continued to grow, enabled us to make a few changes at each break working through various combos. Credit to each and every player who managed to settle relatively well into each change. BOG goes to Ash Whitnell who had a great game in Goal Attack.

The C grade game was a funny old one, with the girls working so hard to get the ball and then coughing it up my making silly decisions, especially in the first quarter. Mt Eliza pressure all over the court was superior to ours hence why they came away with a two goal win. We had some wonderful passages of play with standout efforts from everyone at different times. BOG goes to Kirsty for being an absolutely stalwart in the back line.

D grade also had a well fought out game with lots of rotations and combinations - again credit to the girls for giving their all in any position. Some really good passages of play for 2 and 1/2 quarters - the rest we can work on! BOG goes to Nikki for her drive down the court and clearing. Great job girls!
